Updating the look of your kitchen may be easier than you think. You can give your kitchen cabinets an elegant new look without having to spend a fortune on the remodeling job if you are willing to think creatively and try something new. The following guide walks you through the process of adding picture frame moulding to your cabinets to give them an elegant look.
Take Down Your Cabinet Doors
The first thing you need to do is remove your cabinet doors from your cabinets. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that go into the cabinet door. Leave the hinge screwed into the cabinets. This allows you to be able to easily screw the cabinet door back into place after you add the moulding and paint it.
Measure the Doors
Use a measuring tape to measure the cabinet doors. Picture moulding comes in many different sizes and you want to be sure that you purchase a size that will fit nicely onto the doors. Measure all of the doors because there are times when multiple-sized doors are used in one kitchen.
Purchase Your Picture Frame Moulding
Go to a home improvement store and talk to an associate about the picture frame moulding that they have available. You will have many different styles from which you can choose. The moulding will need to be roughly an inch to two inches smaller in width and length than the cabinet doors so that it can make a great visual impact when people look at it.
Sand Down the Cabinets
Use 80-grit sandpaper to sand down all of the surfaces of the cabinet that will be painted. You want to be sure that you sand down the cabinet doors to ensure the moulding attaches properly and that the paint sticks to it when you add the paint.
Attach the Moulding
The picture frame moulding comes preassembled so all you need to do is add some wood glue to the back of the moulding and then push it against the cabinet door making sure that it is centered. If you feel that this is not something that you can eyeball, you can use a tape measure to measure and mark where you want the moulding to be located on the door.
Paint the Cabinets
Use a beautiful paint to paint the cabinets and the cabinet doors after you have allowed the glue to dry overnight. The paint that you apply to the doors and the cabinets needs to dry overnight as well to ensure it has time to fully dry.
Once the paint is dry, you can reattach the doors to the cabinets and start enjoying your new stylish kitchen. When everything is finished, your cabinets should look completely different. This project does take a little bit of time to complete so be sure that you take that into consideration before you start the job to ensure that you have enough time to complete it.
